Janus is a roman god of beginnings and transitions with two faces looking to the future and the past.
Two-Face is a fictional character in Batman DC Comics and famously portrayed by Aaron Eckhart in “The Dark Knight Rises” movie.
Similarly, a founder of a startup or an entrepreneur or a developer or a product guy et al. should have two faces. For the sake of ease, let us call this person, entrepreneur throughout this writeup.
You spend all your sweat and blood to build something which previously was not manifested. And entrepreneurship is like a place where only a few have gone before. Yet, you had the courage and vision to build such a thing.
After a point, entrepreneurs tend to develop a certain romantic and emotional fixation on their creation(Been there!). This is very much needed as this is the very thing that will fight against naysayers, false starts, fear of failure, uncertainty etc. This is something inside you that nobody can touch. Oddly, this is the very thing that will pull the wool over your eyes. It will keep you in a state of high and you will continue to remain in your own dream albeit a non-existent world.
You have to be grounded and never run away from reality. After all, reality is the greatest naked truth that is known to humans and nobody plays dice there. It is very much needed to be critical as much as you would be appreciative of your creation. You will learn lot more from someone who is critical of your creation rather than from a 3 F’s(Friends, Family and Fools) guy. Reason: They do not have any emotional love for your creation. At best, they will try to be rational. Talk to them, fight with them, contradict them, side with them. Nonetheless, at the end, you will walk way with honest opinion from a rational person. This is you being critical of your creation and living your alter-ego.
Also do not be critical for too long. You will have to switch back to your normal self. But do not be in the middle as middle path is always evil.
In a month, take a break for 2 days. In those days, forget the fact that you are a creator and you have created something. Instead, be an outsider(without any emotional connect) and be critical of your creation. But those 2 days will surely show an entirely contrasting yet amazing world to you.
So, Hello two-face!
